RWE Case Competition 2014 (S1)
Due to the fantastic feedback we received from students who participated at the RWE Projects Initiative last year, we have decided to roll out the RWE Case Competition in the first semester.
RWE Case Competition aims to focus on narrower issues when compared to the Projects Initiative. Students will be allocated a case which they will then compete against each other in solving, the case has deliberately been made quite broad allowing teams to interpret the issue and potential solutions in their own way. Students will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in New Zealand while sharpening their research, analytical, communication and presentation skills.
Participating teams will be allocated a case on how best to utilise land for the most effect transport outcomes; this case has been written specifically by the Government Economics Network or GEN for MADE. Over a period of approximately three weeks, students will get the chance to analyse the case and make recommendations. Each team will then present their findings to an esteemed panel of judges that includes several members of GEN and the Ministry of Transport from Wellington who hold esteemed positions in graduate recruitment for various departments. Research and recommendations will then be passed onto GEN who are currently in the process of recommending to the government how to tackle the transport problem nationwide. The Case Competition will begin on the 6th May at 5pm, when the cases will be emailed to designated email addresses. Submissions must be received by 5pm Monday the 26th of May, finals will be held on Wednesday the 28th May.
If you are willing to make a difference in the society that you live in through the strength of skills you have acquired through your study at the University, register now!
Registration is open to all students at the University of Auckland, second year and up, not just Economics majors!
You can register either as an individual or as a team of no more than 4 students. If you register as an individual, fret not, we will assign you a team!
UPDATE:
We now have three very reputable judges for the event from Wellington and Auckland. Lisa Meehan, Senior Advisor - Research and Economics (Productivity Commission). Lisa is also involved in the graduate recruitment program for the Productivity Commission, Joanne Leung, Principal Economist (Ministry of Transport) and Geoff Cooper, Chief Economist (Auckland Council)
Registrations are now CLOSED.
